“Inuit Traditions Meet Modern Science – Changing the Earth Together” in this Presentation Tony and Connie describe their experience working with ICE911 Research and the Ukpeaġvik Iñupiat Corporation to learn how to preserve the Arctic ice during this time of warming. We will describe the unique history and culture of the Inuit people and show lots of pictures from the Utqiagvik (formerly Barrow) area.  Sponsored by the Stillwater Schools Native American Parent Advisory Committee and the Sally Manzara Interpretive Nature Center. Donations appreciated.

 

Thursday, March 28th; 1:00 PM-5:00 PM Mixed Media Workshop: Sunset Hills and Textures by Julie Schroeder   Cost: $39.00

Come & have fun painting this lovely sunset with birds, hills & trees. We’ll be laying in textures for dimensions in the foreground and then layering on colors. These paintings will have multiple layers of paint and textures for greater depth and 3-dimension.  Just come & enjoy the fun! All supplies included.

FREE Mondays in April 1, 8, 15, 22, 29  from 9 AM to 12 Noon –  Senior Moments – Bring a friend and play Cribbage, Checkers, Chess, Buckthorn Tic-Tac-Toe, work on the Puzzle, or bring your own game. View the video trail walks or photo slideshow. Coffee, Tea, Snacks available.

Tuesday April 2nd, 2019: 1 PM – 4 PM  Finish-up your Paintings Workshop by Julie Schroeder

April 4th, Thursday from 10 AM to 3 PM  Experimenting & Beyond with Alcohol Inks workshop by Julie Schroeder $75 FEE

This medium is very special. It’s not like any other art form.  It’s so exciting to watch the inks move & flow & it happens right in your hands!  Anyone can do it…no need to have experience.  Each painting is totally unique, bright & powerful. Alcohol inks have such a color intensity & personality unmatched by other mediums. Julie will walk you through the steps to beautiful vibrant paintings. We’ll be doing some new techniques  and colors with Piñata Inks in the afternoon!  We’ll be using the inks on Yupo paper as well as on tiles for amazing effects!

BONUS: We’ll be experimenting with 2 different brands of inks & discussing differences in each kind as we work.  Come & have fun with colors & free flow painting. This is a full-day workshop with Julie Schroeder as you create a beautiful finished painting of a doorway surrounded by ancient stone & flowering vines. ​A great project for beginners as the scene will be drawn out onto watercolor paper ahead…all you need to do is paint!

Thursday and Friday April 25th & 26th; 10 AM-2 PM  Two-Day Grape Vines Watercolors  $95.00 FEE
In this workshop you will be experimenting with a variety of techniques and materials as you paint vibrant & glowing grapes in a loose and free style. We will be laying down color,using real grape leaves, salt & cotton gauze for textures in a very wet into wet first layer. Here’s where you can free your creative spirit & let loose to create a unique textural look for grapes on the vine.

Demonstrations and individual instruction will be given to help you enhance your ability to paint in a more intuitive & fluid manner. Let loose as you fling, throw & splatter paint to add dimension, texture and a fresh, spontaneous look to your work. Here is a photo example. Every painting is unique!

Saturday June 1st 9 AM to 1 PMAnnual Sunfish Lake Park Family Nature Day will be hosted by the Sally Manzara Interpretive Nature Center. The nature education trail will feature educators presenting information on local biology and ecology for inquisitive children and interested adults. There will be gifts for the kids and snacks available for all.   If inclement weather is seriously expected, this event will be held indoors at the nature center. Watch this space for more information.
