You can watch the whole\, fascinating process unfold\, from the netting\, to the data collection\, to the banding to the release! The bird banders are as friendly as they are knowledgeable and will be happy to talk with visitors\, young and old\, and answer any questions you might have. Drop in\, they might even let you help out!

SUMMARY:Fall Fundraiser: Pizza\, Music and More!
DESCRIPTION:Come out and enjoy a beautiful autumn afternoon at the SMINC! As we come to the end of our fiscal year\, we’re putting on one more fundraiser for the center. We’ll have food\, games and crafts for the kids\, and music by local musician Colton Warren. Come out\, enjoy the hiking and biking trails\, have some food and drink and listen to some fantastic tunes out on our patio! \nPizza by Lake Elmo’s Stable Pizzeria\, and sundaes served by our volunteers. Suggested donation for admission is $5 per person\, payable at the event. All profits from ticket and food sales benefit the nature center. We will also be welcoming our friends from Public Lands\, who will have bike techs on hand to give advice to novice riders who are considering gearing up for the Sunfish trails. \nColton Warren is a singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from the Twin Cities area who embraces a variety of musical styles. In the vein of Jack Johnson and The Lumineers\, Colton uses his six string guitar and rich baritone voice to create music that sounds like waves\, whiskey and wanderlust. Colton also integrates his 12 string guitar into live sets\, building an atmospheric sound that is both soothing and vibrant. Whatever the instrument\, his songs are crafted to inspire listeners in their own creativity. \n

SUMMARY:Sunfish Lake Park Aquatic Survey Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Our science interns\, Jojo and Brooke\, spent the summer working on an aquatic survey of Sunfish Lake Park. They spent hours lugging the canoe down to the lake\, and wading through the much\, to try to get a count of the animal species that call Sunfish Lake and the Unnamed Pond home. Join us at the Sally Manzara Interpretive Nature Center on Sunday\, September 13 from 3 to 4 p.m. when they will share their results! In time\, the work that these fabulous interns did will be used to update our displays about aquatic life in the park and will be accessible to the public through out website’s Citizen Science page. This event is free and open to the public!

SUMMARY:Honey Extraction
DESCRIPTION:Our beekeepers will be extracting honey on the main floor of the SMINC. Our bees did not produce enough this year\, but they’ll be bringing some frames over from Oakdale\, and you can watch the process–and maybe even get a taste of fresh honey! It’s a sure sign that we’re transitioning from summer to fall. This event is free and open to the public!
