SUMMARY:Sunfish Lake Park Aquatic Survey Presentation
DESCRIPTION:Our science interns\, Jojo and Brooke\, spent the summer working on an aquatic survey of Sunfish Lake Park. They spent hours lugging the canoe down to the lake\, and wading through the much\, to try to get a count of the animal species that call Sunfish Lake and the Unnamed Pond home. Join us at the Sally Manzara Interpretive Nature Center on Sunday\, September 13 from 3 to 4 p.m. when they will share their results! In time\, the work that these fabulous interns did will be used to update our displays about aquatic life in the park and will be accessible to the public through out website’s Citizen Science page. This event is free and open to the public!

You can watch the whole\, fascinating process unfold\, from the netting\, to the data collection\, to the banding to the release! The bird banders are as friendly as they are knowledgeable and will be happy to talk with visitors\, young and old\, and answer any questions you might have. But buckthorn doesn’t stop\, and neither can we. Join us on the second Saturday of each month (well\, most months) at 9:30 to keep the buckthorn at bay. We have loppers\, tools and gloves. Bring water\, sunscreen\, bug spray–whatever you think you’ll need based on the weather. It’s great exercise\, and a great way to help keep our park beautiful!

DESCRIPTION:At Mushroom Munchkins Camp\, toddlers will step into a magical world of tiny fungi\, forest friends\, and BIG imagination! We’ll hunt for colorful mushroom friends\, make mushroom-inspired art\, and discover how mushrooms help our forests grow. \nToddler Tuesdays are a fun way to expose the little ones to outdoor and environmentally based experiences. The first hour will be exploring the theme of the day and the last 20-30 minutes will be a social hour\, chatting with old and new friends and investigating all that the nature center has to share! \nAges: 18 months – 5 yrs. old \nFee: $8 per person\, this includes per adult and child (Under 17 months are free) \nTime:10 a.m. -11:30 a.m. \nTo register\, visit our Toddler Tuesday Registration Page. \nRefund Policy: \nWe understand that things come up sometimes. If you encounter an issue and need to change your registration\, you must notify SMINC staff at least 1 week before the program to allow time for others to fill the slot. You have your choice of two options: \n1) Change your registration to a different Little Explorers or Toddler Tuesdays session. To register for that session\, email finance@sminc-lake-elmo.org and mention the credit. \n2) Transfer your payment to another person attending the session you registered for. SUMMARY:Buckthorn Removal Festival
DESCRIPTION:This annual festival is held every October and is part of our larger Buckthorn Removal and Restoration project which is dedicated to removing invasive buckthorn throughout Sunfish Lake Park and restoring native trees and plants. The festival invites visitors to help clear out buckthorn\, and we welcome groups (Boy Scout Troops\, Girl Scout Troops\, schools\, families\, you name it) to compete to see who can clear the most in one morning. It’s a friendly competition\, of course\, the real winners are the native trees in Sunfish Lake Park.  \n  \nIn addition to clearing buckthorn\, the festival includes activities\, presentations and food\, and it’s free and open to all.

SUMMARY:Toddler Tuesday: Forest Kitties
DESCRIPTION:In this exciting nature program\, toddlers will discover the world of wild cats through stories\, movement\, pretend play\, songs\, and hands-on activities. We’ll learn about Minnesota’s bobcats—our secretive\, spotted forest cats—and compare them with the mighty mountain lion. \nWe will practice sneaking like a bobcat\, stretching like a mountain lion\, listening for animal sounds\, and discovering how wild cats use their paws\, eyes\, ears\, and whiskers to explore the world around them. \nToddler Tuesdays are a fun way to expose the little ones to outdoor and environmentally based experiences. The first hour will be exploring the theme of the day and the last 20-30 minutes will be a social hour\, chatting with old and new friends and investigating all that the nature center has to share! \nAges: 18 months – 5 yrs. old \nFee: $8 per person\, this includes per adult and child (Under 17 months are free) \nTime:10 a.m. -11:30 a.m. \nTo register\, visit our Toddler Tuesday Registration Page. \nRefund Policy: \nWe understand that things come up sometimes. If you encounter an issue and need to change your registration\, you must notify SMINC staff at least 1 week before the program to allow time for others to fill the slot. You have your choice of two options: \n1) Change your registration to a different Little Explorers or Toddler Tuesdays session. To register for that session\, email finance@sminc-lake-elmo.org and mention the credit. \n2) Transfer your payment to another person attending the session you registered for. You must provide the name of the person who will attend in your place. \nFull refunds will be given if SMINC must cancel a program for any reason.

But buckthorn doesn’t stop\, and neither can we. Join us on the second Saturday of each month (well\, most months) at 9:30 to keep the buckthorn at bay. We have loppers\, tools and gloves. Bring water\, sunscreen\, bug spray–whatever you think you’ll need based on the weather. It’s great exercise\, and a great way to help keep our park beautiful!
