SUMMARY:Buckthorn Removal Festival
DESCRIPTION:This annual festival is held every October and is part of our larger Buckthorn Removal and Restoration project which is dedicated to removing invasive buckthorn throughout Sunfish Lake Park and restoring native trees and plants. The festival invites visitors to help clear out buckthorn\, and we welcome groups (Boy Scout Troops\, Girl Scout Troops\, schools\, families\, you name it) to compete to see who can clear the most in one morning. It’s a friendly competition\, of course\, the real winners are the native trees in Sunfish Lake Park.  \n  \nIn addition to clearing buckthorn\, the festival includes activities\, presentations and food\, and it’s free and open to all.

But buckthorn doesn’t stop\, and neither can we. Join us on the second Saturday of each month (well\, most months) at 9:30 to keep the buckthorn at bay. We have loppers\, tools and gloves. Bring water\, sunscreen\, bug spray–whatever you think you’ll need based on the weather. It’s great exercise\, and a great way to help keep our park beautiful!

DESCRIPTION:Help us save Sunfish Lake Park from this horrible invasive! We recently completed the third phase of our buckthorn removal project\, and the park looks great! But buckthorn doesn’t stop\, and neither can we. Join us on the second Saturday of each month (well\, most months) at 9:30 to keep the buckthorn at bay. We have loppers\, tools and gloves. Bring water\, sunscreen\, bug spray–whatever you think you’ll need based on the weather. It’s great exercise\, and a great way to help keep our park beautiful!

SUMMARY:Toddler Tuesday: Deer Friends
DESCRIPTION:Come explore the world of white-tailed deer! In Deer Friends\, preschoolers will learn about these graceful animals and how they live in forests\, fields\, and parks. Through stories\, movement\, nature sounds\, and hands-on activities\, children will discover what deer eat\, where they rest\, and how they use their senses to stay safe. \nWe’ll practice moving quietly like deer\, explore antlers and tracks\, listen for woodland sounds\, and learn how deer change with the seasons. This playful program encourages curiosity\, gentle observation\, and a deeper appreciation for the wildlife that lives around us. \noddler Tuesdays are a fun way to expose the little ones to outdoor and environmentally based experiences. The first hour will be exploring the theme of the day and the last 20-30 minutes will be a social hour\, chatting with old and new friends and investigating all that the nature center has to share! \nAges: 18 months – 5 yrs. old \nFee: $8 per person\, this includes per adult and child (Under 17 months are free) \nTime:10 a.m. -11:30 a.m. \nTo register\, visit our Toddler Tuesday Registration Page. \nRefund Policy: \nWe understand that things come up sometimes. If you encounter an issue and need to change your registration\, you must notify SMINC staff at least 1 week before the program to allow time for others to fill the slot. You have your choice of two options: \n1) Change your registration to a different Little Explorers or Toddler Tuesdays session. To register for that session\, email finance@sminc-lake-elmo.org and mention the credit. \n2) Transfer your payment to another person attending the session you registered for. You must provide the name of the person who will attend in your place. \nFull refunds will be given if SMINC must cancel a program for any reason.
