In the Spring......

Before the trees develop new leaves, there is a time when nearly-full sunlight can reach the forest floor, and provide enough energy for certain plants call “Spring Ephemerals” to  sprout, bloom, set seeds, and go back into resting mode.  Christa Rittberg took the Spring flower photos in this exhibit, and identified the plants. Kim Vogel painted the background and did the printing.

Later in the Year.....

Mushrooms are very diverse group of different organisms that fall into the plant grouping known as fungi.  There are at least 14,000 species described so far!   Some are long-lived and others only pop up for a few days, then wither away. The short-lived ones likely to be found in moist shady areas, or after heavy precipitation. The photos in this exhibit were provided by various Park visitors, and many of the identifications were made by Orville Swanson.
