VOLUNTEER & EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES
Opportunities
A place of peace and respect
The nature center currently offers programs such as Family activities and events, Nature Storybook trail, Adult Education Programs, Senior programs, and volunteer community events such as tree planting and invasive management activities serving all ages and abilities.
Volunteers Needed:
If you have an open morning or afternoon, and enjoy talking with friendly people and offering them a cup of coffee, answering questions, and possibly helping with tasks, you could be a receptionist volunteer. Please contact Bayard.Godsave@sminc-lake-elmo.org.
Training and volunteer background checks are provided.
Buckthorn Removal Days:
The second Saturday of most months we gather at 9:30 to clear buckthorn in Sunfish Lake Park. We have the tools and gloves, you just bring whatever other supplies you might need (water, bug spray, sun screen, snacks, etc.). Please check the EVENTS tab for the latest schedule. This effort is part of our grant-funded Buckthorn Removal and Replacement project. We’ve contracted out the big areas, but need volunteers to help us get to the spots where the heavy machinery can’t reach. Our Sunfish Lake Park Buckthorn Removal Festival is scheduled for a Saturday in late October each year, check the EVENTS tab for exact date.
Internship Opportunities:
The Sally Manzara Interpretive Nature Center in Lake Elmo’s Sunfish Lake Park offers internship programs involving nature studies in the Park. Typically the qualifications required are at least one college course related to the area of interest, or equivalent experience. However, energetic and dedicated newcomers can be considered.
Summer internship programs are envisioned as entailing an approximately three month effort, but hours and days of work are flexible. Salary offered is commensurate with experience. . Please contact tony.manzara@sminc-lake-elmo.
